Club L'Chayim

In August, 1984, Rabbi Erwin Schild recognized the need to promote social, educational, cultural and recreational activities for members of our shul aged 55 years and older. This new organization was to be developed in accordance with the principles of Adath Israel Congregation. Rabbi Schild inspired and guided the fledgling Club L’Chayim, which now has over 400 members. The inaugural meeting was held on Sunday, November 25, 1984 with Irving Nashmanz"l as our founding Chairman and Life Trustee.

An effective, vital, important arm of the synagogue, the success of our organization has made it a model for the community. Club L’Chayim operates twelve months a year. Dues are $20.00 per year. Although we are not a fund-raising group, we organized an endowment fund under the leadership of Ben Goldmintz. The interest from this fund is allocated to synagogue projects annually.

We emphasize learning, caring, fellowship and simcha. And we are enriched by our goodwill committees and capable contact teams info@adathisrael.com. In times of illness or bereavement we provide solace; in times of joy we share simchas.

Our monthly programs are entertaining and thought-provoking. We explore many stimulating and challenging subjects with our dynamic Rabbi Steven Saltzman in our monthly "Lunch and Learn" program. These lectures address some of the major issues that concern us as Jews and as human beings. In other programs many outstanding speakers and talented entertainers have been featured. Our local trips have included outings to the theatre, both locally and to Shaw and Stratford Festivals. Our hilarious Yiddish Night has become a very popular event.

Club L’Chayim has brought back the personal touch which greatly contributes to a more meaningful lifestyle for our members. The prevailing ruach and camaraderie add to our heightened enjoyment of life.
