Read a few of the many greetings included on Rabbi Schild’s Birthday Card below:

Dear Rabbi Schild,

Almost 65 years ago, when Al and Frances Sonenberg joined Adath Israel, you became our family’s rabbi. You’ve been part of virtually all our life cycle events, both the happy and the sad. Most recently you actively participated in the Zoom baby naming of Adam and Aislinn’s youngest daughter.

For over 40 years, as well as fulfilling your congregational responsibilities, you were both a leader in the Jewish community and an interfaith leader in the broader community. Even after your retirement as our congregation’s Senior Rabbi you continued your interfaith work here and in Germany. The example you set impressed and influenced us.

As you’ve always done, you continue to teach us many things. You are a very knowledgeable and extremely skilful teacher. On many occasions we’ve enjoyed and appreciated the delight you take in teaching.

We became friends with you and Laura. Our friendship means a great deal to us. I look forward each week to our pre-Shabbat chats, which always brighten my day.

Happy 101st Birthday!

May you celebrate many more birthdays, in good health, with your family and friends. … Biz 120!

Thank you for being our rabbi and friend. Todah Rabah!  Yasher Koach!

Take care. Keep well. Love,

Gail and Ilia Kaufman

What is Rabbi Schild’s legacy?
Is it a reflection of his stipend in the end? If you come to shul even rarely you will consider the money well spent.

Rabbi Schild built our shul from a shtiebel, from his engagement in forty- seven. It is now a sanctuary for thousands, from its start, in nineteen eleven.

Is Rabbi Schild, not a role model,an observant, humble Jew?He is someone you can love and respect, a man whose motives are true.

Is he recognized by many others for all the good he has done? Both in Canada and around the world, laurels our Rabbi has won.

We revere Rabbi Schild, our leader,a blessing to his family and friends. As we celebrate his hundred and first birthday,
our gratitude and our love, we do send.

His worth is beyond all measure. His legacy beyond compare. It has been our very good fortune, with him our life to share.
Yom Yoleded Sameach!
