Morrie and Ruth Adams have been involved and active members of Adath Israel for many decades. Morrie, a past president of the congregation, and Ruth, an active member of the Sisterhood, could always be found in the sanctuary every Shabbat and at the end of the service, they both drew a crowd of friends and well wishers during the kiddush, especially to hear Ruth’s many jokes.
Unfortunately, both Ruth and Morrie were hospitalized at Sunnybrook with Covid last year. Ruth passed away this past June but Morrie was able to recover and now lives a full, active life in Sunnybrook’s Veterans Wing.
Toward the end of her life, Morrie was able to visit Ruth who was in a nearby section in palliative care. The dedicated Sunnybrook staff knew of their love and bond for each other and arranged for Morrie to make a recording of many of Ruth’s favorite songs that could be played for her when he was not able to be there. This resulted in the touching videos which tell of their eternal love, a legacy of the special bond between them. Citynews also heard of their story and did a news piece about them, giving it a wider audience.
Those who knew this wonderful couple will enjoy the story, songs and pictures of their love. For those who did not, you will also have a chance to learn what made them special and how fortunate we are to have members like these at Adath Israel.
